It's time to get your strat hats on!

The other night after our close game against tw I was left thinking, ‘we’ve got the individual skills, we just need to bind them together’. So with that, I’ve (well not me but Google) created a way that we can all edit a word document online to combine strategies and ideas for our future clan games. The way I envisage it work is that, through collaborating together we’ll be able to build up a nice resource of strategies which are customised to fit with our strengths, weaknesses and general playing style.

The best way to understand how it all works is to get involved. What I need from you fellow IPX’ers is your Google email accounts. After I have that, I’ll send you of and invite with a secure link to the document. From there everything should be pretty self explanatory. Unfortunately if you don’t have a Google account you will only be able to view the document and not edit it. So now would be a good time to get yourself a Google account :)

Please PM me your google account or if you only want to view the document at this stage your normal email and let the strat think box begin!

Another challenge and we need a captain / organiser

Only a matter of hours after our intense battle against Di we received a challenge from our good friends Damage Incorporated. After a week of organising the last game I’m gonna pass on taking that roll for this round (not to say I wouldn’t play).

Challenge details are here: http://www.gamearena.com.au/pc/games/title/enemy-territory-quake-wars/la...

Space-Based Solar Power

The magnitude of the looming energy and environmental problems is significant enough to warrant
consideration of all options, to include revisiting a concept called Space Based Solar Power (SBSP)
first invented in the United States almost 40 years ago.

The basic idea is very straightforward: place very large solar arrays into continuously and intensely
sunlit Earth orbit (1,366 watts/m2) , collect gigawatts of electrical energy, electromagnetically beam
it to Earth, and receive it on the surface for use either as baseload power via direct connection to the
existing electrical grid, conversion into manufactured synthetic hydrocarbon fuels, or as low‐intensity
broadcast power beamed directly to consumers. A single kilometer‐wide band of geosynchronous
earth orbit experiences enough solar flux in one year to nearly equal the amount of energy containe
within all known recoverable conventional oil reserves on Earth today.

I could go on but download the full thing from
http://www.acq.osd.mil/nsso/solar/SBSPInterimAssesment0.1.pdf

We are going to see the first Prototype in orbit in 2009
Delivering 10-25 megawatt beam down to earth

By the sounds of things(and a bit of research) Japan is very interested and may have already
started on there own Project.

Australia, ditch the tower in the middle of Australia and maybe look skywards.

Worlds Greatest Shave - Location?

It seems we have decided to throw a teeny lil get together for the event, which general concensus decided Saturday March 15 as the date to allow time for the travellers to arrive in the mountains/general Sydney area.
Hashy, Oz, Kaz, and any other participants… if you have any ideas for a location, throw ‘em out there.
I know pizza and drinks was mentioned…

/back

Hi All,

After 3 weeks in sunny (and not so sunny) Vietnam, I’m back from an outstanding holiday.

There’s no real way to distil 3 weeks and a whole country into a single post, but point-by-point:

  • Traffic traffic traffic… scooters mainly. Crossing the road can be a challenge.
  • Said traffic also contains kamikaze bus drivers, and some trips don’t bear remembering
  • Our trip was sometimes just moving from one meal to the next. When $5 will get you three delicious and fresh courses, you will gain some weight. Plus a beer for less than $1 helps it go down.
  • In a clear violation of Rule 51, the Mue Ne sailing club serves a delectable chocolate martini
  • Do visit Hoi An if you have a chance… an oasis of calm in between the big cities. This is a panorama from our hotel window (it looks even better in full size)
  • Ha Long bay is something out of another world – not to be missed
  • Sa Pa is very cold and a long way up in the mountains, but it’s all worth it when you get this view for $12 a night (another stiched together panorama… no other editing applied)

But after all it’s good to be back. We were exhausted at the end, because we were on the move so much. See y’all around.
