Does Bethesda Soft Lack Creativity?

Ok So… Morrowind Expansion pack, Bloodmoon… Snow and Ice.

Ok So… Oblivion Expansion pack, Shivering Isles.. Have not actually played this one yet.. However, judging from the title, sounds like it might be more, Ice and Snow!

So yet again.. They release an expansion/DLC ( DownLoadable Content) for Fallout3, Operation Anchorage.

3 Guesses as to the general theme of this one….

Got Ice!?

=p

Let the games begin!

Take this post with a grain of salt, but I reckon IPX has great potential, so i’ll impart some wisdom I learnt while in MaD.

Golden Rules of ETQW Scrims:

#1: Never lemming attack
This is defined as running into a situation that is unwinnable.
Examples:
a) Frontal assualts on heavy weapons (other than rocket) with no cover to protect yourself.
b) Letting the front line dissolve into reinforcement waves of 1 or 2 soldiers.
c) Attacking more than one enemy soldier without a wingman.
Solution: In these cases, if practical, respawn, and regroup. Never rush an enemy unless in a coordinated group. Use flanking and cover. Retreat if necessary, but only if firing back at the enemy. Work as a team. Report threats when practical, i.e. “Hyper Left flank bridge” when you spot the enemy not while the team is engaged shooting them. Maintain operational seperation. Maintain your formation!

#2: Never lemming objective

Western Star..Umm, Digital, 2TB Hard Drives

http://www.techspot.com/news/33356-western-digital-launches-worlds-first...

Ok so maybe some of us wouldn’t recommend Western Digital. I wouldn’t either, but I guess here is another milestone for the Personal Computer. =p

I would expect other more reputable brands to be flogging their own 2TB drives in the weeks to come. =D

slashdot: How Quake Wars Met the Ray Tracer

“Intel released the article ‘Quake Wars Gets Ray Traced’ (PDF) http://www.intelsoftwaregraphics.com/?lid=2224&siteid=32
which details the development efforts of the research team that applied a real-time ray tracer to
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars . It describes the benefits and challenges of transparency textures with this rendering technology.
Further insight is given into what special effects are most costly.
Examples of glass and a 3D water implementation are shown. The outlook hints into the area of freely programmable many-core processors, like Intel’s upcoming Larrabee, that might be able to handle such a workload.”

Low graphics tourney configs

There are a lot of good configs floating around, but here is mine, I need it to run ETQW on my crappy system. You will probably need to change a few binds and crosshair colours etc, but overall, its quite good:

bind “DEL” “kill” “shift”
seta s_decompressionLimit “6”
seta net_clientMaxRate “50000”
seta net_serverMaxClientRate “50000”
seta m_strafeSmooth “1”
seta m_smooth “1”
seta m_strafeScale “6.25”
seta m_yaw “0.022”
seta m_pitch “0.022”
seta in_anglespeedkey “1.5”
seta in_pitchspeed “140”
seta in_yawspeed “140”
seta s_useAdpcmCompression “1”
seta ui_showGun “0”

seta pm_runbob “0”
seta pm_runpitch “0”
seta pm_runroll “0”
seta pm_bobpitch “0”
seta pm_bobroll “0”
seta pm_bobup “0”
seta pm_crouchbob “0”
seta pm_walkbob “0”

seta net_clientPunkbusterEnabled “1”//enables punkbuster client
seta net_clientMaxPrediction “1000” //maximum number of ms a client can predict ahead of server d.
seta net_clientPrediction “20” //additional client side prediction d.

How to play back demos

Many of you might not know that you can do some pretty cool things other than just watch yourself in a demo, so I will show you a pretty good config.

First, go in game and create a new player. Then quit.

Then, go to D:\Users\Kraizen\Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory – QUAKE Wars\sdnet\kraizen\etqwpro or your equivilent directory (if it doesnt exist create it in the new players profile)

Then create a file called autoexec.cfg

Then paste in the following and save and quit:
// GreasedScotsman’s Replay Config

//
// HUD Toggle
//
bind “MOUSE1” “toggle g_showHUD; toggle ui_showGun; com_showFPS 0” “ALT” “default”

//
// Demo Scale Controls
//
bind “KP_INS” “cvaradd demo_scale 1.0” “” “default”
bind “KP_DEL” “cvaradd demo_scale -1.0” “” “default”

bind “MWHEELUP” “cvaradd demo_scale 0.1” “CTRL” “default”
bind “MWHEELDOWN” “cvaradd demo_scale -0.1” “CTRL” “default”

bind “MOUSE1” “toggle demo_scale 10 1” “CTRL” “default”

Interesting things that you can do with the website and how... input required

Fellas

Am looking to make a page of tips/tricks/guides/how to/links for help on how to edit content on the site.
the goal is to give people who are less savy and possibly the new members a brief run down on what they can do with the site and their posts.

If you know of how to do something special on the site, please add it to the list below.
I am giving away 20 Svalbards to each to the adder per item added.

here is an example of some Formatting hints/tips/guides/howto

Bold

Issue: How to make text bold.
Description:To make text BOLD you must add an asterix (*) at the start and finish of the text you wish to bold.
Example: This text is now BOLD would look like: ‘AsterixThis text is now boldAsterix’ (note the no spaces between the * characters and the start and end text)

External Linking

Issue: How to create a neat link such as YouTube rather then having the long messy http://au.youtube.com/ links?

IPX vs ADA Prac Tuesday Night

ADA are keen for another get together, and Tuesday night looks like prime time for a friendly scrim.

No need to sign up, but if you aren’t exhausted from Monday night’s win (I’m assuming it’s a win ;) then it’d be great to see you all online.

Time to Mumble

What it is:
An GPL Open Source, free as in speech and free as in beer, application which supports high quality VOIP for gaming. It works cross plat form (Linux and Windows being the platforms of interest here) and allows us to utilise our own server to host the channel. After it is configured correctly, it will be able to automatically detect when you are speaking and transmit this across the channel, no holding down of buttons required. This provides us with a great alternative to Skype for games like Padman.

Grab the installation files here:
Windows: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mumble/Mumble-1.1.6.exe
Linux: Install via your favourite repository or grab the source and compile http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Main_Page

To connect to the IPX Murmur server use the address: server.ipx.evolvingsoftware.com
