Hi All,

After 3 weeks in sunny (and not so sunny) Vietnam, I’m back from an outstanding holiday.

There’s no real way to distil 3 weeks and a whole country into a single post, but point-by-point:

  • Traffic traffic traffic… scooters mainly. Crossing the road can be a challenge.
  • Said traffic also contains kamikaze bus drivers, and some trips don’t bear remembering
  • Our trip was sometimes just moving from one meal to the next. When $5 will get you three delicious and fresh courses, you will gain some weight. Plus a beer for less than $1 helps it go down.
  • In a clear violation of Rule 51, the Mue Ne sailing club serves a delectable chocolate martini
  • Do visit Hoi An if you have a chance… an oasis of calm in between the big cities. This is a panorama from our hotel window (it looks even better in full size)
  • Ha Long bay is something out of another world – not to be missed
  • Sa Pa is very cold and a long way up in the mountains, but it’s all worth it when you get this view for $12 a night (another stiched together panorama… no other editing applied)

But after all it’s good to be back. We were exhausted at the end, because we were on the move so much. See y’all around.

An Official SD Competition Mod + 1.5 News!

It’s a big night for IPX tonight. The boys have their first official GameArena ETQW ladder game!…But for a bit of side news, I thought I’d let you all know about the upcoming plans Splash Damage have in store for us. Here’s a snippet of badman’s latest blog update regarding news on the new modification:

If you’re not familiar with it, the main purpose of the mod is allow tournament organizers to easily implement and enforce specific rulesets. To that extent, we’ve stuffed quite a lot of cvar customization options in there and creating a new ruleset is as simple as putting the values you’d like to adjust in a config file on your server.
Barring any major international incidents, the beta will be released to the community at large within the coming days. We are hoping to squash any remaining stability issues and major bugs you might come across, so that the final version of the competition mod is in as a good a shape as it can be. To help out mod makers, we are also releasing the full competition mod source code at the same time as the beta – that way you can use bits and pieces of it in your own project, or add your own features to it.

And that wasn’t all, along with a fairly long list of features that the mod will include (no doubt as soon as this goes live we can expect major competitions like GameArena to start using it) badman also communicated what was in store with patch 1.5

Shave for a Cure - March 13-15 2008

Well its been about 9 months till my last haircut. No I didn’t follow the trend, yet again this season, the trend followed me. Ive got curls at the back again. I had nearly forgotten all these years of having short hair that mine gets curly when it gets to a length.

Soo last night I seen the ad on telly. Thought it was a good idea and so ill jump on the bandwagon too, and get a little money raised for charity =)

I would just like to humbly ask that when we start to collect donations, those of you who are not going to join along and get cropped, that you guys could hopefully, funds permitting, throw abit of coin to those of us who are game enough to make the cut! Just think about the people who we could help.. Hey we might not get leukaemia cured this year, but it WILL bring us a step closer!

Mixed team for ET:QW ladder?

Moridin_ from clan TOG messaged me the other day. It looks like they may not have enough players to join the ladder. He was interested in letting some of his players play for us in the ladder.

What do the guys who are in the ladder think of that?

Regardless of which way we go with this with the deadline for player joins fast approaching we may not be able to get them registered. I’m interested to see what the general consensus is though.

He’s also interested in some regular practice and I’ve told him we’re always happy to play other clans.

Edit: We have until April 1st to make roster changes.

Ode to Star Wars

So this is like the lighter side of Star Wars and while I don’t want to fill this place up like a linky link place on steroids these are probably the best thing to come out of youtube I’ve seen in ages. Probably more because of the genera than any thing else – comedy sci-fi but defiantly a hoot….

Its time fellas.. We gotta get a Wolf:ET game setup in the next couple of weeks. If somebody can get ahold of FKQ, that would be fantastic =P

Return to Wolfenstein!! You will find me hiding in that damn train/tram thing as usual!!

Quake Wars Modding: Ideas & Resources

Ok to start off with ill post some resources ive found to help get people started on the SDK, instead of just having to jump in there and spend hours finding everything =p

Ill hold off on pages and pages of mod ideas for now.. Firstly we’ve gotta be grounded in the SDK.. Cant bring any of those ideas to life without the know how to back it up =p

It wasn’t really a surprise that with such a massive patch there was bound to be some niggling issues to sort out post release. badman has posted a new blog explaining some of the upcoming fixes to come with patch 1.41. Check it out here
