New Call for Folding @ Home

m0rnin,

This is mainly directed at 0ur newer members. y0u may n0t be aware that Team IPX participated in the Gnome Folding @ Home project. This pr0ject is managed by Stanford University, and it is a distributed computing program.

y0u d0wnl0ad w0rk units, pr0cess them, and then upl0ad the results t0 their netw0rks. No big deal huh? It uses the spare CPU processing time that your otherwise not using, and chugs away in the background.

I’ll state this now: Many team members have in the past had issues getting folding to run consistently. Best case, you might have to just manually start the program everytime your computer starts, but worst case you wont be able to get it to run at all.
I ask the new members, and remind the older members here, to please give folding for the team a go!

Juno To Jupiter!

m0rnin,

at 11:34am Friday 5th August US Eastern time, Juno will set sail f0r the planet Jupiter.
That is 1:34am Saturday 6th August f0r us here 0n Australian Eastern time.

Juno will be the sec0nd spacecraft sent t0 Jupiter specifically, since Galileo. Aside from that, I think a few of the earlier spacecraft visited Jupiter, but 0nly racked up s0me Fly By p0ints al0ng the way. Juno is planned to stay at Jupiter for a years worth of science observations. The last spacecraft to fly by Jupiter was New Horizons, using Jupiter f0r a gravity assist t0 help speed its way 0ff t0 Plut0.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juno_%28spacecraft%29

Juno should arrive at Jupiter in July of 2016

It will bring us back bigger and better pictures then ever 0f Jupiter, as well as make a study 0f the planets poles, amongst a whole bunch of other scientific mumbo jumbo.

Micro returns!

Hey Guys,

As many of you are aware, I went on a 12 day excursion to Fiji. This was a service trip run by my school where we went to the village of Vanuakula to; build a house, tile classroom floors, repair and paint the nun’s convent, and also do some small maintenance jobs around the village.

After spending 10 days in the village, we left for a Resort in Suva. After spending a few hours in Suva at the craft markets, fruit and vegetable markets, and the local Mac Donalds, we left for the “Uprising Resort”. Let me tell you this, if you have ever gone to Fiji, and been to a resort, most of the “Culture” is a total lie. While as the resort, I felt as though I was in a totally new country to the village I had just stayed in. The Fijian’s were totally westernised!

The Humble Indie Bundle #3

Too tired to write up about all the games, but there’s another cross-platform DRM-free humble bundle on offer.

For those who don’t yet know what these offers are, it’s naming your price for 5 games plus donations to charity. Plus there’s a couple of weeks free Minecraft time on offer too.

Oh, and GoG has a promo too this weekend. 50% off games from the TopWare catalogue (e.g. Earth series, Septerra Core, Two Worlds).
