Folding@Home Distributed Computing

Goal:
“To understand protein folding, protein aggregation, and related diseases. What are proteins and why do they “fold”? Proteins are biology’s workhorses — its “nanomachines.” Before proteins can carry out their biochemical function, they remarkably assemble themselves, or “fold.” The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, remains a mystery. Moreover, perhaps not surprisingly, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. “misfold”), there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson’s disease.

What does Folding@Home do? Folding@Home is a distributed computing project which studies protein folding, misfolding, aggregation, and related diseases.”

Told you I’d check in from somewhere strange. I did actually want to post this from Ulaan Bataar, but the power went out just when I bought 400 tigriteds worth of internet (I want my 20c back damn you Mongolians).

The trip is going awesomely well. See you all in a couple of weeks.

Dammit, i really wanted to play, But unfortunatly i have had a Hardware problem (looks like that mobo replacement has screwed my Graphics card) My laptop screen doesnt work, the external has lines all over it. a diagnostic fails when checking the vidcard, bios is noral, bar the lines. safe mode works, windows fails. Then the lines dissapear, but the external screen doesnt work, then the lines come back , Am typing this at my parents just to FYI everyone.
very sorry guys. but it looks like i will be completely out of action until DELL can organise a techo to come replace. Problem is, tech dept doesnt work on weekends, so the earliest i can talk to someone is TOMORROW!grr
