Revisions for Beta Watch - DayZ (ARMA II MOD)

It was time to leg it out of town, the sun was setting and I need to get that gash looked at. If I didnt find safety soon, I was going to bleed to death. With no one around to help, being stuck in a pitch black town full of walkers in my state would surely mean my end.

The sun had set some hours ago and the sound of gun shots from the town below rang in my ears, it was close by but far enough that I knew that I would be fine. The only thing I feared more then getting eaten, was being shot. Its a hard life but when everyone is fighting to survive, humans are deadlier then walkers. I had eaten the last of my rations and left myself will little to attend to further wounds. The bleeding had stopped, but I was still in bad shape. Im just lucky I didnt lose any more blood or I might have to find some blood packs for a transfusion. One thing was for sure, I needed to find some friendlies or at the very least, brave going back into to town for further supplies. I do remember passing a hospital and general store, but the large horde at my back would have ripped me apart had I cracked the windows to gain access. The pile of dead bodies I passed outside the apartments was warning against it. If they could take down a group, I stood little chance of getting away. Maybe tomorrow they might have moved on, or even better, chased that poor bastard down there out of town. Maybe if I travel a little further into the woods, I can get some rest and see what the day brings. Thats all we can hope for now… just one more day.

DayZ is a mod for ARMA II. You will need the addon Operation Arrowhead but both are in a bundle pack from steam for $30. Its a heafty download and a slow game… but for an Alpha its well worth a look. I figured even though this isnt free, and is Alpha I would throw this into the Beta Watch section. Its very buggy, but as long as you equip yourself will all the info, you can avoid most of the bugs.

The game sets yourself on a massive map which can take hours to travel. Some servers can range from 35-50 players, but remember the more people there are, the more you have to fear. You start off with a basic pistol, some food, water and medical supplies. Along the way you can pick up better guns (though be careful which ones you collect, a single shot from a bolt action rifle will ring out for some distance letting any thing around know where you are and come running), night vision, camping equipment and lots more. There are also vehicle parts around which you can use to repair downed choppers or trucks. But you will also need to collect fuel, which can be very time consuming task. I only know of one group that managed to get a HU-1U up and running but a single gas can was used just to start the damn thing. So lots of fuel runs just to fly it for more fuel could take a couple days.

Your best bet in surviving this world is to find a group of people that you can trust and trust doesnt come cheap or easy in this game. Most people are out to kill everyone for their gear. But you have to be careful, even if you kill in defense, you will gain points leading into a skin change marking you as a player killer. Once you get this, the only way to bring it back to a survivor skin to to heal or help others. Good luck with getting anyone to trust you though once you have been marked.

Oh and before you shell out the $30 and turn around and say “Fuck you delta, this games shit”… this game isnt for everyone. Its in real time based on the server location. It will be dark and hard to see with weather partners the same as the location for the server. It will take you a long to get any where, there is perma death. Its a SLOW game. But for those willing to invest the time and like these ideals, its well worth the price. So in short, watch a video or two before committing to this.

OH and shout outs to Deadite for showing me this. Thanks man, loving it. Cant wait to get back on and see if we can get to that abandoned air base. Maybe we can be one of the lucky few to get that chopper up and running. Run some hell from above on these day walkers lol.
