So ya dont go swiming back home?

A giant fossil sea monster found in th' Arctic an' known as “Predator X” had a bite that would make T-Rex look feeble, scientists said.

The 15-metre long Jurassic era marine reptile had a crushin' 15 tonnes per square inch bite force, th' Natural History Museum o' Oslo University said o' th' new find on th' Norwegian Arctic archipelago o' Svalbard.

“With a skull that’s more than 3 metres long ye’d expect th' bite t' be powerful but this is off th' scale,” said Joern Hurum, an associate professor o' vertebrate paleontology at th' museum who led th' international excavation in 2008.

“It’s much more powerful than T-Rex,” he said o' th' pliosaur reptile that would have been a top marine predator. Tyrannosaurus Rex were bein' a top lan' carnivore among dinosaurs.

The scientists reconstructed th' predator’s head an' estimated th' force by comparin' it with th' similarly-shaped jaws o' alligators in a park in Florida.

“The calculation is one o' th' largest bite forces e'er calculated fer any creature,” th' Museum said o' th' bite, estimated with th' help o' evolutionary biologist Greg Erickson from Florida State University.

Predator X’s bite were bein' more than 10 times more powerful than any modern animal an' four times th' bite o' a T-Rex, it said o' th' fossil, reckoned at 147 million years auld. Alligators, crocodiles an' sharks all now have fearsome bites.

The teeth o' th' pliosaur, belongin' t' a new species, were 30 cms long. The scientists reconstructed th' reptile from a partial skull an' 20,000 fragments o' skeleton.

The pliosaur, estimated t' have weighed 45 tonnes, were bein' similar t' but had more massive bones than another fossil sea monster found on Svalbard in 2007, also estimated at 15 metres long an' th' largest pliosaur t' date.

“It’s not complete enough t' say it’s really bigger than 15 metres,” Hurum said o' th' new fossil.

Hurum had said o' th' first fossil pliosaur that it were bein' big enough t' chomp on a small boat. Load the cannons! The ornery cuss said th' bite estimates fer th' latest fossil forced a rethink.

“This one is more like it could crush a Hummer,” he said. referrin' t' General Motors’ large sport utility vehicle.

Among other findin's were that th' pliosaur had a small thin brain shaped like that o' a great white shark, accordin' t' scans by Patrick Druckenmiller o' th' University o' Alaska.

Pliosaurs preyed upon squid-like animals, fish, an' other marine reptiles. Predator X had four huge flippers t' propel itself along, perhaps usin' just two at cruisin' speeds an' th' others fer a burst o' speed.
