The Humble Indie Bundle

Kazashi's picture

Some time ago I made a post about the game World of Goo, and how its developers were having a “pay what you like” sale. Today I came across another sale, this time involving 5 different indie games.

If you were silly and didn’t snap up World of Goo last time, then it’s being offered in this bundle as well. If you were a good little IPXer and did buy a copy, there is still plenty of value to be had in the other 4 games. All are available DRM-free and on Windows/OSX/Linux.

World of Goo – a physics-based puzzle game with hefty (and cute) balls.
Aquaria – a 2D sidescrolling action-adventure game. Don’t let the mermaid fool you.
Gish – a 2D platformer where you control a blob of tar.
Lugaru – a 3D action-adventure played through a revenge-filled ninja* rabbit.
Penumbra – a first-person survival/horror/adventure.

All games definitely worth trying, and from as low as $0.01 for those stingy types who don’t want to give to charity. Yes, money raised is being split between the developers, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Child’s Play, so if you don’t even think about buying the bundle, you’re a baaaaad IPXer! If you don’t want them, gift them for someone who might.

Now, where to get this great value bundle and feel so good about yourself? Head on over to Wolfire Games and put some money their way. But you’d better get moving, there are only 6 days left!

I’ve just bought mine. What’s your excuse?

WoG

Gave a World of Goo demo a try awhile back. sorta like.. hmmmm, lemmings but with stupid goo instead of stupid lemmings. Lots of fun there. Have not heard of any of the others, but, cmon people. For a ridiculously low price for the bunch. What excuse do you have?

Me, I just spent $25 on helping Greenpeace to save the Pacific Tuna ( I hate seafood.. Its the principal of the thing.), $25 donation to SDL http://www.libsdl.org/ and I tipped the pizza delivery dude $6 last night too.

And.. Ill probably still spend $10 for these games.. Will I be able to afford new Blu-Rays tomorrow? haha….. Stay tuned..

EDIT: Done! Downloading now. Quick and easy and don’t even have to wait for the Paypal to clear from my bank account. Sweetness!!

Quick Update

I just noticed while installing Penumbra: Overture that it gives you a coupon code to buy the whole trilogy at a massively discounted rate. Frictional Games are also offering a discount on pre-release orders for their upcoming first-person horror/adventure game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. So if you like that kind of game, definitely hit them up and help them out.

It is a good time for indie gaming!

Who remembers this game

Hexen II: Hammer of Thyrion

In 2000, Raven Software released the source code to their class based shooter game Hexen II and its multiplayer extension HexenWorld. Since then, there has been some source ports of this game, such as the now discontinued Anvil of Thyrion project, but nothing has been done for Linux since the beginning of 2002.

The Hammer of Thyrion project is a cross-platform source port effort: We continue the development for Linux, BSD and Mac OS X people, with continued support for Windows users as well. Many bugs are fixed and even new features are added: New sound modes, improved mouse handling, improved video modes, OpenGL glows and more. You can go to our project page for more information.

I still have it installed

Played Hexen 2 years ago, a good fun game. Also dabbled a little bit in multiplayer but there weren’t many people around.

The version of Hammer of Thyrion is getting a little long in the tooth, I should get it updated, and see if any other IPXers are interested in playing.
