L4D2 beta -- come keep me company
Valve have released a beta of L4D2.
It contains a new scripting/mutation system that allows for new gametypes. Several are included, but the main point is that modders can do much more now.
But it also contains Linux support. Huzzah!
If you’d like to have a shot with me, the beta is available if you own L4D2 already.
The catch? It’s 18 f***ing GB. So hopefully you’re with an ISP that gives you unmetered Steam downloads (like me).
Let me know if you get this version, and we’ll sort out a time to play co-op online.

we also got portal 1(challenge and advanced maps dont work yet :/) short game but worth playing

Can you play against Windows users? A few of us still play L4D2 occasionally.

afaik yes if you got left for dead 2 beta in your list(servers are not compatible with the current “non-Beta” version)

BUT… the beta and the release game are not compatible.
You need to be installing and playing the beta, and then you’ll see all us Linux people. If our presence is not enough to tempt you, there’s some extra game modes as well.
I’ve played a couple of games today, and 90% of the players have been Linux users which is kinda funny.

steam client updated again and added more libs w/out a mention in the changelog. i have finally given up the battle on STEAM_RUNTIME it is now enabled :/ you win valve you can have a minidistro in my home directory(/me goes cries in the corner)…
sofar LFD2 runs fine. mics dont work on linux yet and theres the occasional random crash and a bit of stutter every now and then but thats about it for problems not bad for 1st public beta release

Playing the beta currently, only in Single Player at the moment. But the more IPXers I see the more likely I’ll be to jump in and run along.

As the in-game VOIP is apparently crap we can probably use mumble.
I’ll set up a challenge or something later to gather players.
