Questions...

Will th' 750 supply cut it?
A sound blaster card?
I’m not sold on ssdd! Shiver me timbers! And don’t think 120 g fer a main sail is enough! My 120 is pushin' capacity an' I’m a “not on th' cdrive” nazi!

And fuck me graphics cards be soooo expensive compared t' everythin' else!

Fuzz's picture

.

Power supply… Aye apparently 500 t' 600ish will cut it fer single gpu even if its top end like th' gtx 680, Dance the Hempen Jig I don’t trust that though, so went th' 750 gettin' lots o' recommendations on wp.

Sb card… Aye wasn’t happy with th' on board sound on me last asus board an' I’m gettin' a lower end asus this time which has only a mid range on board sound. Aarrr! Always regretted not gettin' one so tout I’d try with this pc. Prepare to be boarded! Was tossin' up betwixt xifi an' asus xonar models about th' same price.

Ssd… I’d love th' 256 gb but just can’t justify th' cost. I’ve been runnin' on a 150 raptor fer years so I think I’ll be able t' squeeze into th' 120…. Hopefully.

Graphics…. Shiver me timbers, I'll warrant ye! Sure is. Shiver me timbers! Walk the plank! I pay th' cost here fer gettin' a new graphics card in high deman'. Chances be I’ll have t' wait a few weeks fer this. Most places be chargin' 730 fer it cos o' th' shortage already. Havi g said that it’s o'er 300 cheaper than th' 8800gtx ultra I got in me last pc…, to be sure. That were bein' nuts.

Hmm My 2 Cent's Worth

The ssd have a look at this range ssd
The PSW ye will need o'er 750+ Wats, that 680gtx is goin' t' suck a sh&t load o' power a full tilt PSU

Thanks

Thanks fer th' tips guys.

Holy shit Robag, did ye just recommend me a $785 SSD, that thin' looks fantastic….

Initially I were bein' lookin' at either a Corsair or OCZ series SSD with th' sandforce controller as they seemed t' be th' rage about 6 months ago when I started lookin', and a bucket o' chum. All that seems t' be recommended these days o'er at whirlpool be either th' Crucial M4 (mostly th' 256GB, but i think th' 128GB is ok too – that’s th' one I’d be lookin' at), by Davy Jones' locker. Or th' Intel series, 330 or 520, feed the fishes They seem t' be gettin' recommended based on reliability mostly I think.

Case wise… I ummed an' erred about this fer a while. WP reccomended Fractal Design R3 fer every build. I compared pretty closely, even found a thread comparin' th' Antec P183 an' P193 against th' Fractal. For silence an' build quality th' two Antecs seemed t' come up on top, to be sure.

I did initially look at th' P280… I just dont know about that one, and a bottle of rum, I'll warrant ye! There were bein' somethin' about th' bounty that didn’t do it fer me. It were bein' similar, but they changed th' hard sail bay thin' t' not be in separate compartments. Yaaarrrrr, by Davy Jones' locker! With ye recommendin' it though I’ll definitely give it another look as I did disregard it fairly quickly, feed the fishes The other one I likely won’t go with just because o' th' side window. The pc goes in a bedroom that gets slept in (when I’m in trouble with th' lady…) an' th' PC stays on overnight sometimes. So its nice t' not have bright lights flashin' thru a glass side window.

Also th' reason I keep comin' back t' th' P183v3 is it’s basically th' same case I have now an' I’m pretty happy with what I have now.

The build has th' ability t' overclock (not as good as sandy bridge cpus, but it still does ok) but I’m not really lookin' t' overclock intiially. Just want a fast, silent build (thus th' top end quiet cpu cool, an' top end cpu), Get out of me rum!

Speakers… aye again I’m not dead set on them. But they came up with good reviews, an' I like th' notion o' decent sound comin' out o' somethin' without th' need t' add a sub woofer into th' room.

Lol, I were bein' still runnin' me cheap altec lansin' from nearly 10 years ago too. Yaaarrrrr, Get out of me rum! Right now I’m usin' a 2.0 crappy logitech from about 9 years ago, ya bilge rat, and dinna spare the whip! About time fer an upgrade here I think fer sure.

case

lovin' that second case, Robag… bookmark, bookmark BOOKMARK!!

.

I still think hands down this is still th' best case fer style, coolin' an' price. Load the cannons! http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6606, me Jolly Roger Ask kippa, he got one too an' I have built 3 other systems fer scallywags with that case. Great cable management too.

Also fer cpu coolin', try one o' these, I'll warrant ye. They work great an' maintenance free, we'll keel-haul ye, pass the grog! http://ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemID=606903&CategoryID=444

Sha8doW's picture

Antec P183

ok, now i checked what it looks like, an' i’ve confirmed it… its th' same as mine….

I wouldnt recommend it!
well actually i would, but i suggest ye also get 2-4 additional 175mm fans!

Sha8doW's picture

liquid cooling....

who is usin' it?
apparently liquid coolin' actually makes MORE noise fer only a negligible difference in temp vs air coolin'!
thoughts?

Well...

I have started settin' up systems with th' Corsair Hydro Series. Works perfect with little t' no extra noise. Nay need t' top it up, all sealed an' maintenance free, I'll warrant ye. Also that case I posted, doesnt need any thin' extra but ye can add t' it if ye like. I have fully blinged th' case out with lights an' LED fans.

Fuzz's picture

...

Aye I’m kinda avoidin' th' blin'. Just lookin' fer silent, black. I’ve got th' p182 I think. Or 180. They’re all very similar that’s wh I’m defaultin' t' it, unless I can find somethin' that suits.

I were bein' considerin' replacin' th' two stock antec fans with 2 120 mm noctua fans, an' addin' one more up th' front. 30 a piece though. But I think I’ve convinced me, me auld antec stock fans rattled after a bit… But that were bein' likely cos I no nay ne'er cleaned out th' air filters.

Question… Do u guys open ur cases up an' clean them out often…., All Hands Hoay, I'll warrant ye! Ever… Filters etc?

Just out o' interest shad, how come u suggest fer gettin' th' case an' against it. Oho, Ya swabbie! Runs hot fer u?

Fuzz's picture

...

Liquid coolin'… Very interestin', I’d need t' read some reviews

Always meant to share this...

Here is th' pics o' me current setup. Fire the cannons, Ya horn swogglin' scurvy cur! Figure now is a better time then e'er t' show ye. Here is that case I were bein' talkin' about. Though I still dont have th' Corsair Hydro Series cooler yet.

http://imageshack.us/g/37/img1681y.jpg/

case

I’m with delta on th' case , it comes with 3 fans inbuilt 1 120mm an' 2 200mm i bought an extra because i didn’t know that it came with fans an' th' case is colder then me fridge, Ya horn swogglin' scurvy cur! it also has a lot o' space.

Sha8doW's picture

My heat/p183

Ok, quick an' dirty cause we can likely have a convo elsewhere!
The case is great! looks even better. However it’s only got 2 extraction fans. But scope t' have 4 more intake fans!
The CPU, from what I’ve cared t' pay attention t' runs fine heat wise, notin' that I only have th' standard CPU cooler, an' ye now/be orderin' a chunky sink/fan attachment ( although I do have an extreme mobo with a big built in sink… Anyway off track!
Problem is, me graphic card. Evga Gtx285 o'er clocked/extreme/classified dealie! And it works epicly an' it, in me opinion holds a pretty big candle t' th' 4/500 series in terms o' performance (I run all me games – cause I have th' mindset “I paid lots o' dubloons t' be able t' see/someone spent th' time programmin' it – so I want t' see/play with th' wavy grass on, pass the grog! This does cost me me kdr as I’m hidin' behind stuff which everyone else can’t see an' in fact I’m standin' in th' open!) anyway
The fckin fan in that thin' is like a space shuttle in blast off, Ya lily livered swabbie! Nay th' fans fault really but th' temp gauge on th' graphics card regular, durin' games gets t' 90-95 degrees! And hoist the mainsail! If I’ve got me gas heatin'/or th' room gets hot (it does in summer) an' th' room temp is high, me PC does shut down th' game without warnin' because it hits 101degrees! And hoist the mainsail!
Akin' th' side o' th' case off actually makes this worse AND th' dust is horrible, with a chest full of booty! ap yer better off keepin' it on, ye scurvey dog! And th' noise is increased! ( see more on noise below)
So can I get, ye scurvey dog. Water cooled gpu!
Good thin's about th' case be th' heat management on th' other stuff through segregation o' th' psu is good, an' th' fans aren’t too noisy, when on low or medium (yog can control th' 2 extactors externally) but I’m runnin' mine on high… With th' rocket ship it’s fucken noisy! Enough so I can’t hear much goin' on outside th' room even woh me headphones off!
The filters on th' case (intakes) need vacuumin' every week, they be removable an' that’s all good! And it shows me they work an' air IS gettin' into th' case! However I’d love t' add 2 more fans! Which would hopefully reduce th' extractor fan speed, lowerin' th' o'er all noise but also lower th' gpu temp/fan noise by proxy!
So is it th' cases problem, shiver me timbers Nay it’s th' gpu! But am I lookin t' th' case t' help reduce th' problem? Aye! And reduce noise? Hell yes!

Fuzz's picture

Thanks...

Perfect reply. THat’s highlighted a few thin's I should be lookin' at. I’ve got a similar PC t' what ye have now except much older CPU, feed the fishes It’s P182 I think case, so very similar t' yours….. just quietly… I dont think i’ve e'er bothered t' open it up t' vacuum th' inside lol. I vacauum th' top an' back fans from th' outside regularly an' they do get a lot in thar but I’ve no nay ne'er removed them. I wonder if thats in me model…

Either way, if I do stick with th' P183v3, I’ll definitely get 3 Noctua fans. Fetch me spyglass! 2 t' replace th' two antecs that come with it, an' 1 t' go into one o' th' optional front fan areas.

Also… I’m gonna have t' do a bit more readin' on whether with th' GTX 680 temperature an' fan noise be as much o' an issue. I read up on it a month or so back an' I think in general it got worse in th' 400 series, then better in th' 500 series… Don’t remember what happened with th' 600 series.

I’m sure thar were bein' a water cooled version o' th' gpu.. but it depenended on a fully water cooled case which is more effort than I’m willin' t' put in right now, me Jolly Roger Will get back t' ye, thanks.

Kip, delta, ro, will do some readin' on those other cases ye’ve recceomended t' see if they fit th' bill better. Thanks all.

Fuzz's picture

OK

After a bit o' review readin' it looks like

At load:
GTX 280SC (me existin' blown up card) – 86 (that’s fairly consistent with what I’ve found)
GTX 285 (Shad’s card) – 85 (although I’ll take this as an 86… their review said th' 280 were bein' 85)
GTX 580 – 76
GTX 680 – 78
GTX 680 SC (me potential card) – 80

So in general a bit lower… but I might consider th' non SC edition o' th' EVGA card. Although… fer 2 degrees screw it.

And noise wise… th' 280 series said once it got t' 86, th' fan would be at full ball an' I know what that sounds like. Am sure we’re hearin' th' same thin' thar.

For th' 680 series

“As we can see, maintainin' temperatures at its higher clocks doesn’t involve this card increasin' its fan speeds. The SC+ actually maintains th' exact same acoustical profile as th' reference version which means it likely won’t be heard o'er th' other fans in yer case, ye scurvey dog. “

Which is good.. Oho! means I may as well get th' 680 SC, noise wise. Doesn’t actually give me much reference fer how loud that actually is though.
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/53144-evga...

Need t' find a review o' th' 280 t' see how loud in db it were bein' t' compare.

Fuzz

Fuzz's picture

damn

We already said th' GTX 680’s cooler is quieter than th' one on HD 7970 cards, but is a bit louder than th' one on GTX 580 cards.
We can confirm that ye’ll hear EVGA’s GTX 680 SC Signature from an enclosed case if th' card heats up, but it’s not too loud. The Signature’s coolin' isn’t quieter than th' reference card’s, but it’s not much louder either. Of course, this is somethin' we expected since it’s a factory overclocked GPU.
If ye want a silent GTX 680, then look fer a water cooled one or a version with special coolin' an' two silent fans, which is exactly what we hope EVGA’s GTX 680 Signature 2 will be once it hits th' market. EVGA’s GTX 680 SC Signature’s thermals be fine though, an' temperatures be only a few degrees higher than on reference cards.

Hot damn I want th' Signature 2 series. Special coolin' an' two silent fans….. Oho! drools.

Sha8doW's picture

Pump noise!

I’d hazard a guess water coolin' pumps would still create noise!
I know from me fish tank, they ain’t quiet

Fuzz's picture

.

Am pretty happy with th' air cooler I got. Have t' change me ram t' either low profile corsair or 8gb gskill dimms t' fit th' cooler… Anyone hate gskill?

Quick question about case fans… Not sure what th' deal is these days. I know u can control th' stock case fans with three switches on th' back o' th' antec cases, by Blackbeard's sword. Is it possible t' do th' same if u repla e them with other fans? I’d hate t' have t' open th' cae each time t' switch th' cable just t' change th' speed ( th' noctua co e with three cables… Normal, low noise an' ultra low noise.)

Sha8doW's picture

I'll open up mine and take a photo

Ill open up mine an' take a photo, I’m pretty sure ye should be ok Aslong as yer fan has th' appropriate wires an' ye connect th' up properly!

case

get th' antec nine hundred two v3 gamin' case…..they be pimpin (blue leds so pretty) an' work well!

lol

an' I’ve no nay ne'er washed th' intake fans on th' case in o'er three years o' th' antec 900 cases, even up here in qld

Fuzz's picture

OK...

I think this is what I’m goin' with:

Motherboard Asus P8Z77-V Pro $238 Their Fan control software did it fer me.
CPU Intel I7 3770K $387.00 Damn price went up, f***ers
CPU Cooler Noctua NH-D14 $86.00 -
Case Antec P183v3 $154.00 There’s a few sensible silent cases without side windows that I liked but I kept comin' back t' this one
Power Supply Silverstone ST75F-P 750w modular $128.50 Considered a Seasonic or Corsair gold graded one fer $100 more ensurin' silence an' better efficiency, but from reviews this looks very silent an' is borderin' on gold rated
Graphics Card eVGA GTX 680 SC $689.00 Considered waitin' fer th' newer model with th' 2 silent fans… can’t wait that long though
DVD Pioneer DVR-219LBK $25.00 -
Hard Disk 1 Crucial M4 128GB $178 Switched based on advice
Hard Disk 2 Seagate ST2000DM001 2TB Barracuda, 7200RPM $135.00
Hard Disk 3 Seagate ST2000DM001 2TB Barracuda, 7200RPM $135.00
RAM Corsair 16GB 1600mhz DDR3 $130.00 Chose low profile ram so it would fit with th' cpu fan
Sound Card None - Dropped it t' keep it under $3k fer th' warranty
Speakers Creative GWT40-SII $122 -

Too lazy t' add it up.

Thanks fer th' advice guys.
