Beta Watch - DUST 514

We are currently standing on the precipice of new gaming era. I bring to you, Dust 514.

A change in the tide of war is coming. No longer will they rule the skies above us with the unabated reckoning of their massive corporations. Let us put feet to the earth and take them down from the inside. Band together my brother mercenary and join me in a battle for the galaxy. From down here they can not, and will not ignore us. For as much as they may hit us from above, so will they feel the sting from our battle cries into the skies.

One of the largest MMOs of all time is coming to the PS3. Where EVE allowed you to control large areas of the universe, collecting together with other companies and forming large monolithic corporation… now its time for the consoles to do the same and wage war. How things will swing is totally up to the players. Being a free FPSMMO, anyone with PS3 can join the battle at any time. Join a collection of other people and try to swing balance of power, or simple crush people that stand in your way. Maybe, just maybe we can unit with each other and bring both mercs and corps together to make an unstoppable force. This idea has been thrown around for a long time, but never has it come to FPS. Just imagine the next time you play Metro for the 100th time that it would actually mean some thing. Once you take the area and move further and further along, Team IPX could own part of the USA or France or which ever country we where currently fighting in. This my friends, could be the start of some thing much larger if it does come together. I hope it means big things for us all, so it might be an idea to at least watch the out come of this up and coming title. Now at the moment they are in limited beta testing, but it does seem as though the release is not to far off. Now, down to a little more game facts (or at least what I can find at the moment).

So, how big of a game are we talking here… ok well here is a picture of one of the planets you will be fighting on, you pick which location you wish to fight on below.

Taken that all in? Yeah its a pretty large selection. Now, remember this is happening across a universe… so before you pick a location, how about we pick a planet.

Now from actually being an EVE online player, that second shot is just a drop in the ocean of its total scale. So now that we have the epic proportion out of the way, what is in store those of us on the ground.

There will be a large selection of custom load outs, from gear to guns. Just what that will be is limited to me at the moment. There will also be vehicles, with a nice little range and different points of balance depending on what you need. Now most of the them will look very similar on the outside, but like EVE they will be up for customization to what ever you want to fit them with. Now remember, when all is said and done your on this planet for a reason. Not just to conquer it, but to hurt those in the sky. There are large guns placed on the planet and its your job to capture these and shoot down those in the skies… but be warned, while the war is raging on the planet, so will it be happening in the skies. They too also have the ability to target the ground and smash away at the little ants on the surface. All up this should make for outstanding ever changing atmosphere with PS3 and PC battling in real time in the same match. With a real end goal to your actions, I think it will draw in a crowd that will stay and fight for a long time to come. Bringing together two different platforms has always seemed like a challenge, but it seems this development team have hit it right on target. Though being an FPS on the PS3, I might give it a shot… Im not going to hang around for long. Lets hope that in the future, this project will bring other developers into the fold of a new era of gaming.

PS: I wanted to keep going with the reviews. So while things are being sorted out in regards to what we are doing with this section, Im just going to keep posting them as they are :).
