The Server has Arived
Good news, the wonderful new and shiny Team IPX Server has arrived at the IPX Server Co-Location Hosting Facility. The ISCLHF is state of the art, mounted a-top of a mountain range and out of the reach of flooding sporting scenic views. It sports icy temperature controlled drafts (during winter) and an interruptible power supply originally installed in the 70’s, which can only be described as classic. Other hosting features include 24*7 service desk which is guaranteed not to be manned; no spam filtering, no shopping carts and defiantly no redundancy and alerting systems.
Capacity utilisation and forecasting is paramount to the ISCLHF and as such a refashioned pair of coper wires have been seconded to be a second generation Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. This technology is projected to deliver a 20 fold increase in bandwidth capacity and is forecasted to be a significant enough increase to support required gaming server operations. A new Dynalink router will provide adequate switching and direction of critical packets to the core infrastructure.
Provision of services has occurred and initialisation is expected within the next 48 hours.

Ranked?
Are we going to make this server ranked? Is that hard to do?
Probably not a good idea
That would restrict our ability to use different mods, new maps etc.
not to mention bots, if
not to mention bots, if i’m not mistaken…
Most team servers don’t see a lot of action unless the team is using it for an organised practice or whatever

It’ll be great for pracs,
It’ll be great for pracs, but also for just random non ladder scrims against other teams. We won’t have to rely on GA’s game create anymore.
Well its old news now
But thanks to every one who pitched in to get this sucker up.
n0mad – for the wonderful contribution to the team, we shall all be blessed with the beauty of Mandriva and a great big IPX hawk guiding our way (will up load photos soon).
Robag – who’s configs and amazing understanding of routers and all things IP related which helped us get our first external connection and all subsequent connections – I still need to work out how to connect on the external IP myself though ;-)
Hashy – for the moral support and explanations of why dos was so easy in comparison
Kazashi – With the mad Linux and debugging skills – who would have thought that plain text wouldn’t be plain text?
And all of you which have helped us test it since its been up.
I’ve only left on the port forwarding on the router now, turned off the DMZ zone. Let me know if it causes any issues.
