Rust looks GOOD!
It’s been a while. No… actually it’s been a LONG while since I’ve played Rust. I’ve been preoccupied with NBA, and other endeavours.
But today I decided it was time to fire up some Rust and see how the new versions going. It looks really good. I haven’t kept up with the Devblog to see all these changes. But it’s very different and looks a heap more playable than last time I joined.
In 10 minutes of playtime I found:
- Some houses – A massive satelite dish, that I climbed to the top of (unsure if human made or part of the map) – Fought a deer – Killed a naked and stole his skull – Spent most of the remaining 9 minutes just staring at the beautiful scenery and wondering where to go – Until I found another house. Banged on its door for a while until a guy with a spear came out, speared me, stole my rock while I was dying, and left me to bleed out.
Think it’s worth giving another go with a bunch of people if anyones interested.
RUST!!!

sounds like fun Fuzz
Have they merged the experimental branch. Into the full game
Ta
Robag
Experimental
They’ve made the experimental branch the new default. You can still get to legacy by right clicking and choosing legacy mode. From what I saw today this seems to have at least got more people to try out experimental. It’s a lot more feature complete than it was last time I was in too. I wasn’t even able to hit someone last time.
Not sure what I think of the randomly generated maps. Cool idea. But there was something nice about learning a map and knowing where you’re going. I guess you still get that as long as the maps hang around for a reasonable amount of time before each wipe. If it was monthly wipes, it would be something interesting to look forward to each month – whats next months map going to be like.
cool
Sounds like a plan. Did they add an auto crate management system or does Robag still get to do his organisational fetish thing? :)
Sounds amazing fuzz
Plz can we play
I was
Naked the whole time I played the new version. I got myself into someones house, but all they had was furnaces with burnt wolf meat. Didn’t see any crates. I did manage to clothe myself by the end in some gloves, which I believe aids masturbation.
TLDR… not sure :) Hope so though.
on next?
hahah, so pretty much your usual Saturday night eh Fuzz/
Hopefully will get a chance to have a look this arvo
I'm going away for 2.5 weeks
But ill be interested in having a crack when I’m back around the 25th
Yeah I’ve been having a look
Yeah I’ve been having a look as well and I’ve also been following the devblogs every week too.
There is random map generation with biomes and stuff! Snow biomes, mountainous biomes, forest biomes etc. There are lakes and oceans that you can swim in (and you get wet, and start to freeze to death!)
As Fuzz said, a massive satellite dish. I’ve also seen a lighthouse. They are currently making more and more of these and are placed on the map at generation, ie, used as landmarks.
WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?
Oh err south of the lighthouse! (instead of south of big rad or whatever)
Only bears and wolves so far and they’re a bit scarce but hopefully there will be more soon. Bunch of weapons are in the game. I haven’t played with them too much but I tried making a bow and shooting that and it’s super hard to aim, much harder than legacy imo but maybe that’s just because I’m not used to it :)
Building is neat but still a WIP. You can get square and at one point they were talking about triangle foundations. I’m not sure if the triangle foundations are in at the moment though.
The building system is quite different. Instead of crafting a bunch of walls and then going and putting up a 5 story house in 5 minutes, you place frames down. You can place a foundation frame and then some wall frames on top of that and this all costs basically nothing. The problem? You can walk through the frames! So pull out your hammers and start hammering away on the building and it’ll pull resources out of your inventory and start building. You have different tiers of building state, so the more resources you put into a wall, the stronger it gets. Hitting it with the axe seems to downgrade it, which means it seems to be super easy to knock down walls and break in with just an axe but as I said, WIP.
I think it’s still a little bit off. I was going to wait until the new year and then have another crack at it, but we can always jump in and have a muck around whenever.
