ET QW

Agreed. I’d much prefer to be playing a game like QW that is committed to bringing out patches and fixing things, than a game that comes out and that’s it – the next update you see to it is a $100 expansion pack, or their 2009 version of it (EA sports… I’m looking at you).

Just a quick recap of the story up until now…

The beta was open to thousands of users (most of us got a key – thanks chip). +1 …
Secondly they made a multiplayer demo. Not many games do that. +1 again
Thirdly they seem committed to giving us patches to fix bugs and add features +3 (for each patch so far).
Plus some random ones… The games design to be team based, rewarding good team play not good individuals. This ones up to the team to take advantage of. On pub servers sometimes you’ll get lucky, other times not. +1
It runs on linux… Linux users know how plus that puts beside SD. Plus patches for Linux come out nearly the same time as PC ones – with 1.2 they made a special patch for Linux so they could play on 1.2 even though they hadn’t got VOIP to work for linux yet. +1.337
SDK and map editor. Prolongs the life and replayability of the game for everyone…+1

Sure there’s negatives, and I’ve mentioned them a few times, but overall we’re really lucky to be dealing with a company willing to do all of the above. Most don’t.

I soo wanted to close beta

I soo wanted to close beta test Tribes Vengeance when it came out, but alas I only got to play the open beta when it came out. Once the open beta was finished, the beta became the demo, and then quickly after the full version was released, all demo support went AWOL and it was ruined by scripters who, even tho they were moving 5 times faster then normal, I still didnt have much difficulty in discing to death ;)

Tribes.. There was a game I was better at then 99% of everybody else hehe..

My point is I hope that the now demo of QWET doesn’t fall into the same trap of major exploits like the Vengeance demo eventually did, which turned me off buying the full version.. I could see the same happening here, but I really do think that even the demo for Quake Wars will be looked after, atleast for awhile. =)

Good point

Very good point Hashy. The demo has been well looked after so far, which is something you wouldn’t think they would need to do after retail came out. In this last patch they released a new version of the demo that had all the 1.4 features.

yes it gives a good

yes it gives a good presentation to prospected customers.. Your more likely to buy the full version if the demo is good… The state the Tribes Vengeance demo was left in about 6 months after the full games release, would have been enough to deter many would be buyers, including myself.

But it was sierra so, we cant really hold them to the same high standard as ID would be.. ;)
