Comp Mod and 1.5 just around the corner

I remember writing a similar title awhile ago…oh wait…Splash is for real this time! After sorting out legal issues, SD are ready to roll out beta’s of 1.5 and the Comp Mod. This is to test out for final bugs before giving the seal of approval and launching the full release. All the information you could want to read is posted on badmans latest blog which can be found here. Give it a good read because you’ll notice that there’s a few bug fixes that we’ve all been waiting for,

Post your thoughts!

It's time to get your strat hats on!

The other night after our close game against tw I was left thinking, ‘we’ve got the individual skills, we just need to bind them together’. So with that, I’ve (well not me but Google) created a way that we can all edit a word document online to combine strategies and ideas for our future clan games. The way I envisage it work is that, through collaborating together we’ll be able to build up a nice resource of strategies which are customised to fit with our strengths, weaknesses and general playing style.

The best way to understand how it all works is to get involved. What I need from you fellow IPX’ers is your Google email accounts. After I have that, I’ll send you of and invite with a secure link to the document. From there everything should be pretty self explanatory. Unfortunately if you don’t have a Google account you will only be able to view the document and not edit it. So now would be a good time to get yourself a Google account :)

Please PM me your google account or if you only want to view the document at this stage your normal email and let the strat think box begin!

An Official SD Competition Mod + 1.5 News!

It’s a big night for IPX tonight. The boys have their first official GameArena ETQW ladder game!…But for a bit of side news, I thought I’d let you all know about the upcoming plans Splash Damage have in store for us. Here’s a snippet of badman’s latest blog update regarding news on the new modification:

If you’re not familiar with it, the main purpose of the mod is allow tournament organizers to easily implement and enforce specific rulesets. To that extent, we’ve stuffed quite a lot of cvar customization options in there and creating a new ruleset is as simple as putting the values you’d like to adjust in a config file on your server.
Barring any major international incidents, the beta will be released to the community at large within the coming days. We are hoping to squash any remaining stability issues and major bugs you might come across, so that the final version of the competition mod is in as a good a shape as it can be. To help out mod makers, we are also releasing the full competition mod source code at the same time as the beta – that way you can use bits and pieces of it in your own project, or add your own features to it.

And that wasn’t all, along with a fairly long list of features that the mod will include (no doubt as soon as this goes live we can expect major competitions like GameArena to start using it) badman also communicated what was in store with patch 1.5

1.4 Update coming soon

It wasn’t really a surprise that with such a massive patch there was bound to be some niggling issues to sort out post release. badman has posted a new blog explaining some of the upcoming fixes to come with patch 1.41. Check it out here

1.4 Has Landed!!!

Well I win the bet!!!:) 1.4 is finally here and the changes are MASSIVE! Click here to read all the changes. This patch has been a long time coming and it most certainly looks well worth the wait.

See you in the servers!! … After work:(

P.S I’d highly suggest getting the file from a local ISP server. Internode has the file mirrored here. Linux patches are also available on their file server.

UPDATE:
Some people are reporting crashes. This could be due to not having updated punkbuster. Update punkbuster manually here
If your game continues to crash do not try and update it through the auto-updater. Because of the huge patch size its likely packets will get corrupted. Download it manually from the node link above.

That massive 1.4 news has finally arrived

A few days ago I mentioned that impending 1.4 news was coming… Well that news finally arrived today. No 1.4 isn’t here however it looks like coming out shortly (wait…you’ve heard that already). Apparently some internal testing found some bugs in the installer,

Our planned roll-out had to be stopped because internal testing turned up issues with the installers that could affect some players. The folks at Activision are trying to get these worked out as quickly as they can – they will let us know as soon as they have a solid estimate for getting the fixes in and tested. We’ll pass that information on to you right away when we get it.
