GON 2012 Most Wanted List
games.on.net have posted up their 2012 most wanted games list. Looks like a few alright ones on there to try. Gonna have to try Counter Strike: Global Offensive for sure myself. I reckon the founders might be pretty happy with the idea of Carmageddon: Reincarnation too.
I just don’t think I’m going to have the time or motivation to play them all, honestly a bit more concerned and busy with real life at the moment. But still, should be some gems on the way.
Heres the link to the list:

n0mad, what you think of Diablo III? Ive told you before and I tell you again; I just don’t like the genre, TES is pretty much my only exception. =p
GTA:IV was another game, like Battlefield 2, that I should have played, would have played, but for some reason just gave me the slip, and by the time I think to getting around to play them, it just seems too late to even bother. GTA:V should, from my perspective, be an improvement on San Andreas.. Assuming it has the same scale…
New Hitman game could be interesting as well. I remember the first game, Codename 47 ( first game I bought that came in a DVD case.. and it wasn’t a DVD..hehe), and even thought I could never finish it then, It was still alot of fun choking a guy with the wire thingy and dumping his ragdoll down a sewer! Classic!

Mechwarrior ONLINE...
Okay so.. First time hearing about this myself.. For about 5 seconds I was super excited… Till I read the dreaded rest of it… Free.. To.. Play…
Mechwarrior is one of my favourite all time series of games ( Started on Mechwarrior 2 , the first Mechwarrior I tried and just found waaay too old and dated at the time..
As I said it is one of my favourite franchises, even if Microsoft did sort of kill it a bit in the end… Tribes is also another of my favourite franchises, and its latest F2P incarnation ( Tribes: Ascend) I have found to be a huge disappointment from my perspective as a seasoned Tribal… I fear the same will happen with this new iteration of Mechwarrior.. Only time will tell, but free to play models have never failed to disappoint me thus far.. I rather make a once off payment for a game and receive ALL of the features of the game that you should have from the get go…. Seriously… No custom classes in T:A…. PATHETIC…
oh in other news...
Just stumbled across this. Some of you are probably aware of it already.. Sony 3D headset… Looks like the old headset has gotten a real shakeup… IO Glasses…hehe… Anybody here actually ever own a pair of those things??

I was just thinking about this awhile back, when all the 3D TV’s started returning. I figured the idea of the headset needed a revisit. Would be really keen to try out one of these sometime.. Lets hope we see them in stores in 2012!

Guess it seems to be all based around 3D.. Just wondering how doing everything else is gonna work on them.. Shame theyre only 720p, at least for now.
Hashy
Yeah, but the thing that is great about F2P over standard, is that F2P actually gets more new content all the time. Its not just one quick polish, then release… and if we feel it made enough money, we might bring out a patch. F2P makes the devs make more stuff and keeps the game rolling. LoL, they bring out a character roughly every fortnight, with new skins and patches to fix what ever has been glitching. You dont wait a few months for it to get fixed. If you look at the price path most other games have taken, you will probably be able to unlock through game play, and just set aside that $80-100 you would have spent on the game, for some nice unlocks you want. In the end, if you dont like the game you can walk away and lose nothing :D. I for one will be checking out a lot of games on that list. Be cool if I had a mech buddy though Hashy, I have been dying for a new Mech game worth playing since Mechwarrior Mercenaries years ago.
Pro start!
Well see I have this habit of helping kick start those free to play games with pay options. I usually get in on a pre order, which sometimes includes a closed beta release, as is the case with Tribes: Ascend. I was just so enthusiastic for the game, I dont really care about the $30 I put into it, its just I believe the free to play model doesn’t work the that particular game.. Sure they will bring out more classes, there will be one to suit almost everybody; but that freedom that we once took for granted in Tribes is now lost.
Galaxy Online was another one.. Dear God.. Chinese capitalists = experts! Problem with that game was the CONSTANT server mergers, which destroyed any strategic placement of your worlds in the games universe, I didn’t stick with that for very long, only put $10 towards it anyway xD
Its just my experience, with games that I like that become free to play, it ruins the experience a bit. Too often if you want a level playing field, you gotta pay. I am sure there are other F2P models out there which do work; it seems to work alright for you LoL players.
If I don’t jump in on Mechwarrior Online, which I probably will HAVE to give a go anyway, I’m sure Kazashi would be convinced to play.. That is, if you could convince him to install windows, which wont happen.. =p
Which Mercenaries you talking about? MW2 Mercs or MW4 Mercs? Stupid question really.. MW2 Mercs was friggin awesome.. I shat myself the first time the Clanners showed up in their shiny IIC’s and ER Lazers xD
This is why I believe if Team IPX were a clan, we would all have to speak using no contractions whatsoever xD
MW2 Mercs for sure man
I have been a fan of the whole thing well before it was even a computer game, I still even have all the maps and figurines + cardboard mechs on the shelf behind me. Problem is finding someone that will play it with me these days.
never painted..
Ok I tried painting my Timberwolf, but it just didn’t work out.. Never got around to painting the rest of them.. Dunno where they all are, I think Kazashi has them. Just a small collection, nothing fancy.. Never played an actual game with them either.. Ive got one of the more recent technical readouts somewhere around too. Always go with the pewter models myself, the cardboard cutouts seemed abit tacky =p
MW2 got us into it, and MW4 probably got us out of it hahaha
\m/ BattleTech \m/
I’d play depending on how well it runs in Wine. I got Mercs4 (free MekTek version) running fairly well, and completed it twice in the past month or so. The only one I can’t get to run at all is MW3, which spoiled my run of replaying all the games.
Yeah, I’ve got the figures here, and your TRO. And my 4th Ed. box set, and a whole lot of PDFs, and nobody to play against. Which is probably good since MegaMek repeatedly handed me my arse.
Yeah I dont like cardboard
I never got around to buy pewter, they only had plastic back in the day (If you notice that first box is 2nd edition). We would some times have up to 16 people playing with full squads which meant we would run low on plastic models. That came with a lot of detailed plastic models (see pic below). I had three folders of data sheets as well, but that went into the bin in this move. I never play it, and I can always get them again. I had more books, but this is all thats left after 15 years.
I cant for the life of me get that damn photo to rotate for display on the forums
rotate before you upload
Try rotating the photo in your operating system before you upload it? I dunno.
A mate had one of the earlier “pewter” models of the Atlas.. Which was actually lead I believe.. We even got a newer Atlas to compared; the older one was a fair bit heavier!!
I cleaned helped clean up a house a few months back with my Dad and his girlfriend, was her brothers place. The guy is a bit sick, but he obviously used to enjoy Warhammer ( not 40K, sorry Kazashi).. There were HUNDREDS of Pewters, HUNDREDS of plastics, and as many more cardboard cutouts… A Warhammer fan would have had a f**king orgasm.. If they were all Battletech, I would have never left ;p
Might get around to painting our collection this year, if Kazashi feels upto it?
Ahh the 3058 Tech Readout! Thats the one Kazashi bought me many moons ago! I never minded the Bushwacker; the IS needed something good in that tonnage range, I reckon the Bushwacker did it well!
When I bought my "Timbewolf"
OK so I started off with Mechwarrior 2… For those of you that don’t know, in the Battletech Universe, MW2 and MW2 GBL ( Ghost Bears Legacy) were set in the dominions of the Clans. They had their own names for their own Battlemechs. The Inner Sphere, where everybody else was (Earth at the centre basically) didn’t know the Clanners even existed, until they started to invade the Inner Sphere. When they saw all these new, unknown Battlemechs, they gave them names. The Timberwolf was called the Mad Cat, for example..
When I went to The Tin Soldier to buy my Timberwolf, I had been more recently playing MW2 Mercenaries, which is set in the Inner Sphere, before and during the time the clanners begin to invade.
So anyway, I made the mistake of asking the shop keeper for a “Mad Cat”…. Yeah, that didn’t go down too well.. “GET THE F**K OUT OF MY SHOP” was what I think he WANTED to say to me… ;p
