Smokin' Guns 1.1 Beta

A beta of the 1.1 version of Smokin’ Guns is available:

The download is on the linked page.

To install this, you have to:

1. Copy (I said COPY) your Smokin’ Guns install to a new folder
2. Unzip the beta on top of your new copy. When prompted, allow it to overwrite files. This way you only need to dowload the 21MB of changes, rather than the whole lot.
3. Run the game and have fun

The catch: You can only connect to 1.1beta servers with the 1.1beta client. There’s one pub server running it… with a nice 400 ping for us all :)

Maybe Robag can get a second server running?

You’ll find it’s mainly polish.

The engine is upgraded to ioQuake3 (as used in Padman, Urban Terror) which gives some new advantages out of the box, and future advantages to mappers and modellers.

Hi-res lightmaps have been added for some maps, making them look better.

The new engine does directional sound much better for me. That is, you can hear with greater precision where other players are when they are reloading or walking around.

Some textures and models have been tweaked and improved I think.

Bugs fixed, balance issues etc.

Overall it’s not a huge change, and no real gameplay additions, just a bit more polish than the 1.0 release. The main difference is they now have a better base to build upon with the move to ioQuake3.

if you look hard, you should find a “TEAM – IPX SG Beta” Server

server address robag.dyndns.org:27961

remember you will need to be running the beta version of the SG client otherwise the server will kick you for not having the right PAK files
