My Choice

Here are the parts I would choose. The others will certainly optimize this list.

Part Brand Name Detail Part Number
CPU Intel Core i5-661 Dual Core, 3.3GHz Core i5-661
GPU Gigabyte nVidea GeForce GTX 460 1024MB, DDR5 GV-N460OC-1GI
Audio Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium 7.1, Realistic EAX 5.0 Sound, 96KHz 24bit Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R 4x PCIe-16, 10 SATA, Gigabit LAN, 2 USB3.0, 2 eSATA GA-X58A-UD3R
RAM Corsair XMS3 3× 2GB, DDR3, PC2000MHz CMX6GX3M3A2000C9
Storage Drive Western Digital 1TB AV-GP 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB Cache WD10EURS
System Drive Kingston 64GB SSDNow V-Series 64GB, 64MB Cache SNV425-S2/64GB

In New Zealand, that would come to: NZ$1,930.17. That is AU$1,506.57 in the land less down under.

Perhaps improve the sound card (although that one appears to be pretty good), and get better RAM. I’m not sure about i7 vs i5, as most games are more GPU intensive anyway. There is some special turbo technology in the i5 to overclock itself sometimes.

Cheers

Don’t think you can go wrong starting with that. That will be a beast.

Then add decently priced SSD, 2TB h/d. The motherboard has on board audio – I’ve been fine with Asus’s on board audio, and before that gigabytes, but my ears aren’t exactly picky. RAM corsair, another good choice. Just remember you’ll probably need a separate PSU, and a bigish one at that with an GTX580 in there. Maybe something like this: http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?cPath=23_41&products_id=12...

Onboard

My 3.5mm outputs are SHOCKING! I’m thinking out buying a new audio card so I don’t have to listen to the racket! I get a high pitch whining noise when the CPU is busy. It seems to have gone away at the moment, not sure what causes it.

I can’t even use the front panel connections for the same story…

yep onboard

sound always has machine noise in it

that is why i use USB Headphones ..mmmmm no PC whining here
