Vote for me!

Hey guys!

I like to spend my free time building electronics projects, and this year I decided to build a data logger. This data logger has wireless sensor nodes, and each node can have many ADC (analogue to digital converter) and many digital sensors. For example, I have a solar unit that has the capability of transmitting temperature data and solar intensity.

I entered into my school science fair, and came out as First In Senior Technology, and won the ‘Best Technology Award’ sponsored by IPENZ (Engineering NZ). This gained my entry into the regional competition, and $85! I went along to the BOP (Bay of Plenty) regional science fair, and came out with First in Senior Technology, First for Radio Science*, First for the IPENZ technology award (again!), and a nomination for Realise the Dream – the New Zealand National competition. *The guy that runs this award is a HAM operator, and every year comes to try and award. This was the first time in ages he gave out the award. I thought it was worth it just to see how happy he was to give it out!

I walked away with another $400, a HAM radio for 12 months, and a nomination for Realise the Dream.

The next competition I have entered into was the ‘Bright Sparks Hitech Competition’. This is run by ETITO of New Zealand. Bright Sparks is a way of connecting NZ kids interested in the electrical hobby, and computer technology.

I found out a few days ago that I was a finalist for this competition. I got a phone call, and couldn’t wipe the smile off my face! I logged into the website, and built a profile page.

That’s where you guys come in! There is a people’s choice award. The project with the most votes win!

You can vote here: http://www.brightsparksawards.org.nz/finalists/15-16-years/daniel-collins-/ Just click the big red button! On the page you will be able to read about the project, and a bit about me. Watch the youtube video for a good idea on what happens.

I got a text from Bright Sparks today (and a phone call in the middle of assembly!) asking if I would give them permission to suggest me to local news papers. I agreed, and about 10 minutes later got a call from the town chronicle. I have an interview with them on Friday (Miss a morning of school!)

I hope you enjoyed hearing about it! I guess this is a good view in what I like to do other than game with you guys!
