Psyonix announces the second anniversary of the launch of Rocket League will be on July 5th, saying they will celebrate with an anniversary update. This will add a new arena called Champions Field, kick off season five, and introduce Rocket League Radio for your listening pleasure. This post has all the details, and this trailer offers a look. Here’s the plan:
Independent video game developer and publisher, Psyonix, creators of the sports-action hit, Rocket League, today revealed the Anniversary Update during the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Season Three World Championship in Los Angeles, CA.

Launching on July 5, the Anniversary Update features a FREE new arena named ‘Champions Field,’ a standard, modern-looking stadium that will be available in Competitive, Casual and Private matches. The update also brings the end of ‘Competitive Season 4’ and the start of ‘Competitive Season 5,’ as well as the introduction of ‘Rocket League Radio,’ which adds 18 new songs from record label, Monstercat, to the game.

Additional new content includes two new Import Battle-Cars – ‘Animus GP’ and ‘Centio V17’ – available exclusively as drops inside the new ‘Overdrive Crate,’ and for the first time ever, new customization options like ‘Engine Audio,’ ‘Goal Explosions,’ and ‘Trails’ that are a mix of FREE selections and Crate drops. Looking forward to this one

Start of a new season is always good. Like the look of the new arena too.

UNDER THE WATER?!

I was a little excited/confused about playing rocket league underwater, and the start of that video made me think that maybe we’re under the water but with the ability to jump out of the water too (LIKE DOLPHINS?!?) but then I realized that it would be a bit too over the top crazy to be real.

Arena looks sick though, might be my new favourite.

Underwater

You know what would be nice? If before a match in the underwater arena, they let you drive through the water and jump out like in the video. Let us control which directions we go, we could demo others trying to get in, block others etc. But we only have maybe 10-15 seconds to do it. The same short period thats used before the 3,2,1 timer starts. So as soon as you’re in, you get the timer and kick off.

Rocket League AquaDome Next Month

Ignoring the lessons of Waterworld, the Rocket League website announces a free AquaDome update coming to Rocket League next month. As implied by the name, this is set underwater, but when a game is based on soccer played with cars, nothing should bioshock us. This trailer offers a look at the submerged action in this new arena. Here’s word:
It’s time to take your Battle-Cars 20,001 leagues under the sea with our FREE “AquaDome” update coming to Rocket League this October!

Inspired by the seven seas, the creatures beneath the waves, and the machines we use to study both, AquaDome is the first standard Arena we’ve released since Utopia Coliseum. Expect to see AquaDome on every Rocket League playlist, including Competitive, when it’s released next month.

In addition to the new Arena, we’ll also be launching two new Battle-Cars in the AquaDome update. Triton (a slick, futuristic ocean sub) and Proteus (a more science-minded research vessel) are both made to cruise below the waves and sail over the pitch. Both cars will be individually priced at USD $1.99 (or regional equivalent) per car.

Rocket League Adding Rumble Mode

Psyonix announces a new Rumble mode is coming to Rocket League next month in a free update. The call this all-new mode “chaotic,” noting that it adds 11 new power-ups to the motorsports mash-up. Here’s a trailer, and here are the details:
Independent video game developer and publisher, Psyonix, is thrilled to announce that it is bringing an all-new, chaotic game mode dubbed Rocket League® Rumble to Rocket League® players around the world, starting next month.

Revealed on stage for the first time at today’s finale of the Rocket League Championship Series in Hollywood, California, Rocket League® Rumble is a FREE new game mode that lets you play in an epic battle royale stacked with randomized power-ups. Whether you’re equipped with the Haymaker (which punches the ball), the Swapper (that changes your place with an opponent’s), or the Tornado (which you’ll just have to see to believe), each one of the 11 new power-ups brings an extra dimension to the classic Rocket League® formula.

Like the “Hoops” and “Mutator” modes before it, Rocket League® Rumble will appear in online playlists when it debuts in September, and will also be available in both Private and Exhibition matches. The complete power-up list includes:

The Boot (Kick’s an opponent’s car)
Disruptor (Forces the opponent to drive uncontrollably)
Freezer (Freezes the ball in-place)
Grappling Hook (Pulls you towards the ball)
Haymaker (Punches the ball)
Magnetizer (Attracts the ball to your car)
Plunger (Grabs the ball via plunger and cord)
Power Hitter (Hit everything harder)
Spike (Attach the ball to your car when you bump into it)
Swapper (Change positions on the field with your opponent)
Tornado (Sweep up the ball and cars into a giant funnel cloud)
Rocket League® Rumble is just the beginning of a much bigger update planned for September. Expect more details in the coming weeks.

Rocket League Crate Plans

A semi-recent post on reddit has a confirmation from Psyonix of plans to add loot crates to Rocket League to provide cosmetic drops for the motorized sports game (thanks Gamasutra). They call these Counter-Strike: Global Operations-style crates, but promise they will not be supporting the sketchy gambling side of this system that’s caused a lot of recent controversy. Here’s word:
Those assets are, indeed, early pieces of an upcoming system we plan on implementing to fund our esports prize pools and events. We plan on officially announcing it next month at (or near) the RLCS Live Finals since it directly relates to that event and other events like it, but since this image came out before our official word, we wanted to clarify some things for you:

Crates will contain cosmetic content only. We have a strict “Don’t Sell Advantage” policy for Rocket League, and we’re sticking with that.
There will be no Steam Marketplace integration with crates. We are definitely aware of the problems related to third-party gambling in other games and we are not interested in taking that approach.
Players who don’t want to interact with this system can hide it entirely with a single checkbox. Also of note, this won’t affect or impact our current item-drop system in any way.
We also want to reassure you guys that we are sticking with our approach to keep introducing free new Arenas, Modes, and Items, along with the occasional paid DLC just like we always have.
Hope this helps shed some light on what we have planned. It’s actually a pretty cool system that we’ll be happy to share detail about next month.
