Revision of Watchin Planes, Going to Saturn, Folding @ Home Approaches 1,000,000!!! & Family Stuff from Tue, 19/06/2012 - 09:57
m0rning all,
First off I would just like to say sorry for my absence in the short time since I have rejoined. There were some family matters that needed to be attended to. Sister and brother in law to be had to fly back from their European road trip early for a short period of time. It was unexpected but it was really good to see them nonetheless regardless of the unfortunate circumstances.
They are on their way back to Spain now as we speak, via Singapore and Frankfurt. We actually had Flight Radar up and were trying to watch the plane as it took off. In this instance, it was rather “inconsistent”. However a brief catchup of the websites data feed, we saw their plane was just about to pass over us. We we’re able to wave them a final goodbye until Christmas.
Its pretty cool to be able to see the planes that are coming, know what speed they’re doing, how high they are, and their destination(s).
Might want to check it out, here’s a link. http://www.flightradar24.com/
Anyway I’m just saying because having them around plus other visitors kinda gave us a busy week here so I was more or less in dispose, sorry I should have let you guys know, but hey its all over now so, time to get crackin =)
In other news. I’m going to head to Saturn in the simulator. One planet I have not done yet, so I thought why not give it a shot. Should be fun. I’m not going to be doing it intensively like most of my other missions, just a bit on and off here and there, it’s probably a much better less stress way of doing it.
Now I would just like to say a thank you to everybody who has contributed to the Teams Folding @ Home efforts over the years. We have almost scored our first ONE MILLION! Great stuff fellas! =)
It seems that they have also gone and created a new looking folding program that you install. You choose either just CPU stuff or GPU stuff within the same program it seems. Still needs a bit of work, I have not found where the links are to the team stats liket he older program had.. But nonetheless they needed a software refurbishment a long time ago.
Here’s a link to the main site, downloads can be found easily enough from the front page.

Our team stats are here: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=136356
If you feel like doing a bit of folding, maybe helping us get over that 1,000,000 mark, that would be awesome =)
Our team number is : 136356
Happy Folding and Plane Watching!
n0mad knows 1,000,000 score means 1,000,000 svalsbards

Dual GPU?
Your going for dual GPU right? That should do some serious Folding@rsekicking!!!
I have not tried the new folding client yet, still happy with my older one, but the new one seems to give you the option on install ( at least this is windows anyway..) to select the GPU client aswell.
Only reason I have not done so myself is because last time ( previous windows install) when I activated the GPU client, my computer would crash. The thing is about folding, is everyone’s PC is different more or less, and folding is all about hardware. Sometimes your hardware, like mine, doesn’t have the best support. So just see how you go. But a good CPU coupled with a crazy GPU or two should give some of the best folding performance you can get ( Ive noticed that the PS3 is somewhere between my PC, which is CPU Folding only, above the PS3 is a good PC GPU.)
Yeah Flight Radar is awesome. Doesn’t show every flight, and sometimes its not totally upto date. The arrivals and especially departures lists for airports is quiet sketchy. If your serious about tracking a flight, keep Flight Radar up, but when you click on an airport I think up the top abit of that window that opens, you can go direct to the airports own website, which will have a more accurate schedule of departures, and how much they are delayed by.
Watched Doodizm’s plane come outta Heathrow.. About an hour or so late. The travelers should be well back to their campervan in Spain by now. Will watch them fly home on the radar later this year.
Good
To see you Hashy
Cant miss me!
Can’t miss me now Shad, I’m too f**ken fat!
They warned me..
“So Hashy, you have reached the age where you have stopped growing vertically and have begun to expand horizontally”
I thought it was just a figure of speech… FML! ;)
Need a whole new set of jeans! Small IPX hoodie is now snug…
