Revision of Linux Gaming: NS2 and more from Fri, 04/10/2013 - 10:07
Natural Selection 2 – http://store.steampowered.com/app/4920/
if you have ever played Tremulous this is the game for you. Natural selection 2 is a FPS/Strategy game where aliens and marines fight for survival. the linux version was released 4 weeks ago its quite buggy and performance is quite bad(my 590 only gets 60-90 fps and i have to keep everything on low or itll crash before the 1st games over) but the game is good enough to look past those issues
Differences from Tremulous:
* each side has a Commander who places upgrades, structures and tries to organise the team
* research system
* instead of the dretch, granger, basilisk, marauder, dragoon, tyrant we have the skulk(free), Gorge(healer) Lerk(flying class), fade, Onos
* less weapons then tremulous you start off with the rifle and can later buy a shotgun. with an advanced armoury that gets extended to a Grenade Launcher and Flamethrower
* Jetpacks have a limited fly time. Exosuits are like battlesuits except you can only get a minigun or a railgun model
* instead of getting evos/creds from kills you get resources based on how much resource nodes your team has.
whenever they have a sale they normally have a free weekend its worth picking up i wasted over 100 hours in my 1st 2 weeks and also ended up donating 75bucks to their reinforcement program http://www.naturalselection2.com/reinforced/
Duke3d Megaton Edition – http://store.steampowered.com/app/225140/
this version includes Atomic edition in dosbox it also has those levels in a modified JFD3D client and 3 expansions(Duke it out in D.C., Nuclear winter, Lifes a Beach), steam achievements and a shiny new HUD. steam based multiplayer is coming soon and i will be planning on doing a few Duke3d events when it does
Shadow warrior Classic redux – http://store.steampowered.com/app/225160/
this includes shadow warrior classic in dosbox but it also has a modified JFSW client including the main game and 2 expansions(wonton destruction and twin dragon). like duke3d it has gotten achievements and will feature steam based multiplayer sometime after duke3d gets it

* Shadowrun Returns – should be next version
* No More Room in Hell – linux version is getting betatested now and should be out next version
* Painkiller HD – was due in april/may but was delayed till sometime after deadfall adventures(which then also got delayed). their linux programmer quit a few weeks ago but thanks to a bit of prodding by gamingonlinux on twitter he confirmed its still being worked on and he is doing the work. mac users have been waiting since december
Might come out:
* System Shock 2 – nothing announced yet but they were working on a wine skin
* Worms Reloaded – Linux progress in the CDR but no word from developers yet

oww this is the
one with dinosaur right.
looks like fun
I may have to lookout for a Steam sale and pick it up cheap, me thinks
ta
Robag
i guess the aliens kinda look like dinosaurs
it definitely is fun like i said they normally do a free weekend with their sales so you should be able to try before you buy(and i suggest you do performance is quite bad even on high end machines. hopefully will get better with next version)
i forgot to add that tropical 5 is also heading to steam for linux. ill just add that in the comments since i edited the blog post quite a bit for the arma stuff i discovered today
WHAT? they arent dinosours
having never really paid much attention to the writeups on games, and one to quickly judge a book by its cover (hey, what can I say? Im a connoisseur of Porn!) i really genuinely thought that they was Dinosours!
I’ll go in for a 4 pack in anyone else interested
I like this guy
That’s a nice roundup you’ve got there. I finished playing through Shadow Warrior and addons, boy they bring back some memories…. makes me want to crack open BUILD and make something.
Good news everyone!

duke3dME publicbeta branch now has multiplayer
Edit: looks like you can choose co-op or DM up to 8 players i can only select E1M1 map and its peer to peer(which is fine except the join game doesnt show ping so theres a strong chance you will not pick a local server for pub games)
Loved tremulous
Such a fun game. Might try NS2 sometime, perhaps on a free weekend or something.
Duke 3D Multiplayer
Now that IS good news!! I’m on it!
Duke3d DM Map suggestions
anyone got suggestions for Duke3d DM maps.
if we start doing duke3d events would be good to have a list of 5-10 maps in a mappack since there’s no autodownload
id also like to see if the multiplayer works as expected before we do an event anyone up for that?
do we know it there are any
D3D Linux server binaries, we can use
ta
Robag
dont think so
i think all duke3d ports/original has been peer to peer but i think eduke32 had a broken attempt at it
with the megaton edition it should be as easy as making a lobby and inviting everyone
sounds easy...
in theory…
Just as easy as it sounded in 1997.
In practice:
Sha8dow, Fuzz, Kazozza, Kazashi, Axe Man all in Fuzz’s rumpus (hehe) room. The worlds heaviest desktops all setup on and under the table tennis table. 15-21” CRT monitors on the table tennis table.
PC’s connected via BNC cable into T Connectors, into more T piece, terminated by a terminator on each end… Why’s it not working!!!
Shit, the host isn’t even in the loop…
Ok fixed. Not working. Check the terminators… shit mines loose. OK fixed.
Try again.. OK working.
Ozza needs to go home… shit whole networks down.
OK fixed. Why won’t it connect? Number 3 player, number 1 delayer.
Oh wait.. forgot to put the terminator on the new computer. Shit it’s on Ozza’s t piece. OZZA GET BACK HERE!!
thats actually
a very true story… Of most of my weekends and holidays throughout high school!
Networks just arent the same without T-Pieces and Terminators!
Actually Life just is GREAT without IPX!
indeed
i remember doing all that. i had windows for workgroups 3.11 back then it came on a wopping 6 disks and office came on like 55 i think and just like today it took the whole night to load anything on the windows OS except for today they took out the changing disks part
