Steamships Ahoy - The Sacrifice DLC & Mac L4D2 [1:52 pm ET]

Though the news is not yet reflected on the Steam Website, Valve announces the Windows editions of The Sacrifice DLC for Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are both now automatically through Steam, free of charge for owners of those games. This is accompanied by the release of the Mac edition of Left 4 Dead 2, which, like all Steamplay games, is free for those who already own the Windows edition. For those who don’t already possess the zombie shooter sequel, Left 4 Dead 2 is currently on sale for 66% off, as is the original Left 4 Dead (though the Mac edition of that is not expected until the end of this month). The Xbox 360 editions of both DLC are expected later today. Here’s word on The Sacrifice for those who have only taken a passing interest to this point:

Important Message for BF2 and BF 2142 August 25

BY: zh1nt0 POSTED: Aug 23, 2010, 01:17AM COMMENTS: 19 (Login Required to Comment)

This is a quick and friendly notice about GameSpy ‘s future datacenter move. They’re on track for a move date of Wednesday, August 25 starting at 10:00 p.m. (22:00) Pacific Daylight Time. This will affect BF2 and BF2142 and they will be offline for approximately 6 hours starting at that time.

This is not a patch for either Battlefield 2 or Battlefield 2142.

All played stats and accounts will remain unchanged during this transfer.

Thanks very much, and have a fantastic week.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory Source Code [Aug 12, 2010, 5:14 pm ET]

The id Software FTP directory offers a little QuakeCon gift from id Software, as it now hosts the public C source code for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Return to Castle Wolfenstein single player, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer (all direct links), which are all available under the GNU General Public License. These source releases contain no game data, so a retail copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein will still be required to access assets from that game, while Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is free, and still available through Splash Damage. In each case the game’s EULAs are still in full effect. The source downloads are mirrored on Gamers.org where they also have the read me files for Enemy Territory, RTCW single player. and RTCW multiplayer. Thanks Frans.
