With a lot more time being spent indoors likely in the coming months, and a big-0 birthday present past due, I’ve finally decided to get a real PC and just leave the Thinkpad for work and stop thrashing it with virtual machines, data crunching, software synths, DAWs and occasional games.

This build is to be a solid mid-ranger, for gaming and music production as well as some software development/virtualisation. It probably will get a CPU upgrade at some point in it’s lifetime, but we’ll see what happens.

I’m also wanting something that looks really clean and neat and it’s going to be a Stormtrooper colour scheme. A few components just might have been chosen for looks rather than value.

Orders have now been placed, so no criticism is allowed or I might feel bad. This is the first time I’ve built a PC in a decade, so hopefully I haven’t stuffed up too badly.

Read on for parts list…

Happy birthday Internet! 50 years old today

50 years ago, on October 29 1969, a packet was sent between two computers — one at UCLA and the other at Stanford Research Institute — on the ARPANET. This doesn’t sound hugely exciting, but it was first step in the creation of the Internet.

In the half century since then, the world has transformed beyond recognition. The arrival of the World Wide Web in 1991 showed what the Internet could be and ultimately changed everything, bringing us online shopping, up to the minute news, social networking, and more.

We now have powerful smartphones that let us access the web and streaming services like Netflix and Spotify from anywhere, on Wi-Fi and 4G/5G, and who knows what the future will bring?

Vint Cerf, VP and Chief Internet Evangelist at Google was one of the architects of the modern Internet and today, to mark the start of things, he reveals what he considers to be the most important milestones in the history of the Internet.

Borderlands 3 is near...

In case anyone has missed it, Borderlands 3 is set to be released on the 13th of September, and with its release coming up soon I’m just wondering how many of y’all would be interested in playing after it has been released and whether it is something we could make a ‘games night’ out of??

Linux rust will be no more

about a week ago garry newman posted plans to seperate the linux client from windows/mac. this has now been updated to discontinuing it and offering refunds to linux users no matter the hours

atleast its not a typical garry newman post there is some fud there(claims linux has about ~200 players last 30 days even though they havent sold for linux for a year and broken it multiple times in past 3 months and of those 200 its apparently a cheaters sanctuary and compiled scripting will solve cheating)

could be worse they are admitting treating linux users like crap and they are offering refunds now so im kinda mixed how i feel about this rust is a good game with really bad developers.
